Technische Universiteit Delft
Alex is studying the ‘Archineering’ course, focussing on circular design with bio-based and waste materials. His current project is design and construction of two 1:1 footbridges in a public park for the Municipality of Haarlem (to be built January 2024, currently in design phase). Learnt and gained practical experience with a range of regenerative materials, including hemp, lime, cork, waste timber, and a number of engineered timber materials.

Feilden Fowles Architects
As a part 1 designer at Feilden Fowles, Alex worked on projects in the education, arts and culture, and workspace sectors. He worked on a winning competition entry for an Oxford college masterplan, the conversion of a disused bus depot into a modern art gallery and studio spaces (stage 0), and a creative workspace centred around the reuse of an existing timber frame (stage 3). Alex also gained experience on site at the Urban Nature Project at the Natural History Museum in London. Additionally, he developed a book of selected works for the practice, and attended the Poetic Pragmatism symposium hosted at Waterloo City Farm.

University of Bath
Alex is studying for a BSc in Architecture and will graduate in 2025. His coursework has a strong emphasis on the environmental cost of architecture, and has subsequently explored material reuse - as in the Wallpaper-maker's House - and the potential for reuse after the life of the building (see Combe Down People's Hall).

Paperspace Magazine
Alex has been involved with Paperspace - an independent architecture and design magazine published in Bath - since 2021, and has recently worked as the graphics editor. In this role, he oversaw submissions and co-ordinated the layout and design of two issues. The latest issue - ROOTS / ROUTES - is out now. He also writes and illustrates for the magazine, frequently exploring alternative modes of practice and living within the context of the climate crisis.

Dowen Farmer Architects
Working on a range of small-scale residential projects, Alex gained experience with early stage design work and developed presentation skills. Projects include two terraced houses on a bomb site in South London, the conversion of a back-land garage site into 5 family homes, and a five-story residential block broaching the divide between a sensitive conservation area and a former industrial zone.
